In this week’s #EGOUNLOCKED, we’ve been talkin’ to Jules; a 19 year old indie-pop artist from the US.

Tell us about yourself in tweet form: (you’ve got 140 characters)

My favorite season is fall, I am a coffee lover, songwriting geek, poetry lover, and I love my cat, Joey.

How did you end up where you are in life right now?

I wrote my very first song when I was 8 and I never looked back. It’s been a long journey, with lots of obstacles and patience. I was writing and singing every Taylor Swift song there was and I performed endlessly; open mics, talent shows, even bars. After that I recorded an EP and it wasn’t long before I decided to keep writing and to keep learning. Two years ago I drove to LA and kept getting shut down. A year later I decided to go for another sound and I found my main co-writer, Richard Harris, a British producer. We shared the same passion for certain artists and I thought it’d be a good idea to write and we’ve been writing ever since. My new song “Eyes Shut” was noticed by other producers and opened many doors. So here I am!

What’s been your proudest moment to date?

Leigh Weimers award; I’m proud of it because I know how much talent there is in the Northern California, so winning it was a true honor.

Who or what would you cite as your biggest inspo?

Jon Foreman of Switchfoot.

What’s on your playlist right now?

Julia Michaels new short album, Blood Cultures, and Maggie Rogers.

Describe your style in 3 words...

Deep, ethereal, dreamy…

If you can collab on an album with any 3 artists, dead or alive, who would they be?

Jack Antanoff, Maggie Rogers, and Lorde.

Tell us a random fact about yourself…

I can lick my elbow.

If you were a mood ring, what color would you be?

What’s a mood ring? Probably my parents know, haha. But definitely turquoise, which means passionate. When I’m writing music especially, I get really into it.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

I’m really looking forward to releasing more music. I’ve been writing for so long that it’s been a while since I’ve been able to share anything new, especially because this music is a totally different style than what I’m known for.
