How To Feel Comfortable When You’re At The Gym

When trying anything new it’s only natural to feel a mixture of nerves and excitement. When it comes to the gym, the key to getting the most out of your workout is learning how to banish that anxiety. We’ve gathered a few tips and tricks to help you feel more comfortable in the gym.

Be confident in what you’re wearing

Dress for what you’re doing and dress how you feel best. If you feel best in a long-running g top to cover your bum then you’re going to give more to the run rather than stopping to pull your top down every two minutes.

Be confident with the equipment you’re using

Familiarise yourself with your gym and the equipment you want to use. Go to your gym induction (yes I know but it will help) or watch online induction videos to familiarise yourself with what you want to do so you’ll feel more confident when it comes to your workout.

Plan your workout

Go to your workout with a plan and stick to it. If you show up to the gym without a plan the likelihood is you’ll wander around for 5 minutes and revert to the same thing you do every time (powerwalking on the treadmill you know we’re talking about you). Make the most of everything your gyms got to offer, not just the treadmill.

Ignore everything else

Possibly the hardest part of your workout. Ignore the other people in the gym and especially don’t compete with them. Everyone has their own goals and are too worried about themselves to worry bout what you’re doing.

Avoid peak hours

The busiest time in the gym is between 5-7 so if you prefer working out in an empty gym then avoid going then. However if you’d rather blend into the crowd then peak time is ideal.

Don’t sweat it

Life never runs smoothly and that means you don’t always have to either. Falling off a treadmill from time to time or dropping a weight on your toe isn’t the end of the world. it happens, and more often than you think. This also shouldn’t put you off, just be sensible and listen to your body. At the end of the day we’re all human.
